I fell in love with the Montessori Method in 2000 when I moved to Austin from Washington State. I worked as a classroom assistant full time with an amazing teacher who became my mentor. Observing the transformation that took place from a child at age 3 to when they transitioned out of the classroom at age 5-6 was such an unforgettable inspiration. I realized that becoming a lead Montessori teacher was my calling. When my mentor told me it was time for her to retire in 2008, that's when I knew it was time for me to complete my Montessori certification and do my best to fill her shoes.
I have two daughters; Irie who just celebrated her 10th birthday and Maya is turning 5 years old September 15th. Maya is in the Bumble Bee class here at Young Minds and she is loving it! I like to think that since becoming a parent, I have a better perspective as a teacher... not only with the needs of the child, but the needs of the parent.
